About the Role:

This role will play a key role in leading the architecture of solutions delivered to the business and will be involved throughout all stages of the software development process. This includes consultation with stakeholders, design, implementation, testing, release and post-implementation support and maintenance.

Day-to-day: 

• Build and deliver clean, effective code that meets quality standards and continuously improves how we deliver
• Support the team by developing innovative solutions, fixing issues, adding new features, and monitoring systems to identify and manage risks early

• Apply DevOps principles to improve delivery, monitoring, and product support
• Use metrics, alerting, and IAC to drive efficient, reliable releases
• Document solutions, share knowledge, and champion continuous improvement.
• Develop, enhance, and manage cloud-based software products (GCP/AWS)
• Collaborate with developers, UX designers, analysts, and Product teams to plan, design, and deliver new features
• Identify opportunities to refine existing products and implement improvements
• Support QA processes and contribute to team data, insights, and reporting
• Stay curious and continuously learn new tools, languages, and practices to strengthen our products and teams
• Actively participate and lead knowledge sharing sessions and workshops

• Mentor and guide colleagues and junior team members, offering regular feedback on their progress and solutions while delegating tasks that promote growth and ownership.
  

To be successful in the role:

In this senior role, success comes from combining hands-on technical depth with strategic insight and collaborative skills. Ideally you have: 

• A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or IT, and/or 5+ years of relevant experience
• Experience with Golang, Kubernetes, GraphQL, and gRPC
• Advanced skills in one or more of: React, React Native, TypeScript/JavaScript, Next.js, CSS/HTML, WebAPI/REST/GraphQL, Node.js, Golang, or PHP
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms - GCP or AWS
• Experience with Agile tools and methodologies (Jira, Confluence)
• Proven ability to mentor and guide team members
• (Highly valued) Experience in the Horse Racing and Wagering industry
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• The ability to work both collaboratively and independently across multiple priorities
• A curiosity for new technologies and a commitment to continuous learning
• Demonstrated initiative, ownership, and sound decision-making
• Capability to teach and uphold engineering and product development best practices.
• A genuine passion for making a positive impact on the business and team culture
• Flexibility to support international and domestic clients outside regular business hours as required
